~ Guidelines for Submission of Articles

ModernLatina.com focuses on topics of interest to Latina Women.  Articles cover the following range of topics:  Fashion, Beauty, Health, Recipes, Well-Being, Relationships, Marriage, Politics, Culture, Book Reviews, and Movie/Music Review.  We are always looking to showcase the works and talents of established and aspiring Latina writers to feature on our website.  Articles word counts range from 500-1300 words and will need to follow the guidelines detailed below.

If you have an article you would like to submit for review for one of the topics above, please send the article via e-mail or regular mail.  If sending an article via e-mail, please type “Article Submission”in the e-mail subject line and send it to editor@modernlatina.com.  Regardless of the method used for submission of articles, articles shall not be considered accepted until a completed Authorization (License) To Use Copyrighted Work form (see blank form below) is received.  Authorization forms and/or article submissions may be sent via regular mail to Modern Latina, Inc., P.O. Box 4726, Salinas, CA 93912.

1.  Article Length.  Short articles (such as book reviews) can range from 500-700 words.  Feature articles usually run around 1300+ words.

2.  Writing Style.  The main point of your article should be stated within the first 2-3 paragraphs.  Define all acronyms.  Attribute all quotes, including a person’s name, title, and company.  Any product and vendor references must include full vendor identification on first reference, along with the city and state in which it is located.  Some women may not want to be identified, in that case they may remain anonymous.  We request that you follow the AP writing style.

3.  Author Biographies.  Authors’ names and professional affiliations are noted at the end of the article.  This brief biography must accompany each submission.  In the biography, include the author’s name, title, company (or organization), and company’s (or organization’s) full address.

4.  Editorial Points & Ownership.  Your text will be edited for grammar, style, and consistency.  At ModernLatina.com, we generally edit all authors heavily to achieve the ease of readability.  The author retains first rights to the work.  Modern Latina, Inc. retains rights to the designed piece as it appears in the magazine.  Permission to reprint is given freely, as long as the author and Modern Latina, Inc. or ModernLatina.com are credited.

5.  Graphics.  Interesting, dynamic, color graphics increase an article’s ability to capture the reader’s attention and make your story more readily understood.

6.  Payment for Articles.  At this time, Modern Latina, Inc. does not pay for printed articles.  We welcome your contributions as a mutually beneficial endeavor.
